Grundtal Wine Rack
Materials: Grundtal double towel bar
Description: Stainless steel wine rack made from Grundtal 80cm double towel racks. Racks are screwed to a welded metal frame made from 1" x 1/8" steel strip. The base width of the Grundtal towel racks is inconsistent, to conceal this there is a 1" wide steel strip on top of the towel rack bases - the screws go through this cover strip, through the Grundtal mounting holes, and into the steel frame underneath. The screws are 10-32 machine screws, they thread into tapped holes in the steel frame. The frame and cover strip are finished with an 80 grit flap wheel on a grinder and then clear coated. You could also finish with a hand sander or paint the steel.
The result is a very sturdy, contemporary stainless steel wine rack. It could be made to any size desired.

clever. i like it.
ReplyDeleteI do like this a lot - however, each of those towel bars are 14.99 a pop, making this piece at least $180.
ReplyDeleteIn Canada, $29 each. No, not cheap.. but other high end alternatives not cheap either. We could not find anything else we liked at any price. We were looking for the industrial / modern look to match the kitchen and rest of house.
DeleteI feel like those bottles would fall off...that could be the California Earthquake girl in me, though.
ReplyDeleteBottles are quite secure. Don't know about an earthquake though.
DeleteNo earthquakes in Alberta where this is from :p
DeleteThis looks great, especially if you are going for an industrial look! Nice idea.
ReplyDeleteGrundtal rails start at $6.99 and go up to $10.99 depending on the length, at least in US that is.
ReplyDeleteit's a good idea! ... and I love wine!
ReplyDeleteit's very nice, though pricey... though when you have kids (young ones at that), this will be very inviting.. Yippee! monkey bars to climb up on!!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, a nice hack... though probably too expensive for my taste. good idea though!
Great Hack! Very clean and modern looking, doesn't have much of a footprint and what a great way to show off your wines with great looking labels. I enjoy wine and sometimes the labels are a work of art. As for some people saying it's pricey sometimes the goal isn't cheap but originality and filling a need or desire which isn't available commercially, and/or if it is the cost is much higher than the "hack" so even tho' the hack appears pricey it's still much cheaper than the commercial alternative.
ReplyDeleteTrue dat!
DeleteFor the people complaining this is pricey, have you priced out wine storage solutions lately? OMG! They're all outrageous. This is totally low-budget in comparison to most, and holds two-dozen bottles while taking up virtually no floor space. Brilliant hack!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! We'll keep this in mind for when we will redo our kitchen.
ReplyDeleteTina
great idea, looks pretty, and also it can save a lot space.
ReplyDeleteI love great idea will try to copy to see that this is me in my room
ReplyDeleteCan you explain how you mounted it to the wall? Assuming you found studs? If not...how many anchors are you using to mount only to drywall?
ReplyDeleteI have one of these racks with 3 bars rather than 2, and if you put the glasses in right, and take them out right, you can also hang wine glasses as well. SUPER great idea
ReplyDeletecan the length of these be cut as i i need about 60cm in length but will have to cut one end and the thread in the pole will no longer on one side
