Great!
ReplyDeleteI love this!!! A cat tree that doesn't scream "omg! I'm a cat tree!" :) Nice!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!Great job! Are your cats heavy? One of my cats is hovering around 14lbs. I am wondering if this can handle the play of a larger cat.
ReplyDeleteIt supports 4 cats ranging from 11 to 15 lbs simultanously, the sturdiness of the steps is determined of the material choice and thickness.
ReplyDeleteWe used pine because of availability and cost effectivness.
Cheers!

Your cats probably love this, although they will probably never outright show it, since they are, well, cats. Good hack!
ReplyDeleteThis is really great! I have been searching for a cat tree, but they are all so tacky. My husband I have decided to make one like yours. I have a couple of questions though. 1.) Are you using the Stolmen clothes rails for the supports at the top? 2.) What are the dimensions of your pine boards? 3.) Are those just some extra mounting fixtures above your top shelf or are they part of the integrity of the structure? Thanks for such a cool idea! Priscilla Anderson
ReplyDelete@anonymous with 14lb cat, you might consider the CATkins diet for your fat feline friend...
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I have been plugging away at this project, but I am having a problem with the steps -- they aren't staying straight! I used a 2" hole saw, and the holes in the shelves seem to be a tad wider than the pole. Did you experience this as well? Any suggestions? Rachel

ReplyDeleteI am entertaining the idea of building this, but am wondering if you used more than one of the stolmen rails? The longest one is only 43 1/4 inches. Guess I'm not seeing something in the pictures. Any details would be greatly appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI have added a new photo on my blog with more details.

This is the correct post to use.

I just had a lady in my store looking for one.
Do not use Stolmen rail. You need Stolmen Post. About US$30.
ReplyDeleteHoping I'll get a reply - just opened my Stolmen pole and measured it and it appears that a 2" hole saw will work fine....but the Ikea instructions suggest drilling 3 screws into the ceiling...which I DON'T want to do! Suspect it's because this is for wardrobe uses rather than cat tree....and the screws are overkill....
ReplyDeletePam
im not a person that builds things, so i would probably need more instructions, i found the post on ikea.com, but now what? what about the fixtures?, which ones do i need from ikea? and the platforms, do i get those from ikea too?
