Ikea Rast turned into industrial dresser
Materials: Ikea Rast 3 drawer dresser, jig saw, sander, annie sloan chalk paint, minwax grey water based stain, stencils
Description: 1. Assemble Rast dresser
2. Draw hand holes on center of drawer. mine were 2" H x 3.5" W
3. Cut out holes with jig saw
4. Sand around the corners to round out the edges
5. Using Annie Sloan's Napoleon Blue chalk paint, stencil numbers, letters, or whatever you desire
6. Using minwax water based stain in grey, brush on some stain and quickly wipe it off with a rag
7. Apply Annie Sloan's dark wax and quickly wipe off with a rag
8. If using the dresser in a child's room or in earthquake territory, be sure to secure the dresser to the wall!
Sit back, relax, enjoy your $40 Ikea hack, and brag to your pals how you've saved $1440 by making your own hack instead of paying full retail.
See more of the industrial Rast.

I thought this was from the pbteen catalog at first glance. Nice. Thanks.
ReplyDeletewow, thanks! such a nice compliment!
DeleteNice hack. And great Endless Summer memorabilia.
ReplyDeletethanks. i'm from a family of surfers, so the surfing theme was a must. luckily it works well with an industrial vibe, too. hopefully the look will work well for a long time as my son gets older.
DeleteThere are so many totally awesome rast hacks
ReplyDeleteIt is really a shame they don't offer more sizes--some of these techniques would be equally cool on a larger (4-drawer malm or so) sized dresser.
totally agree!
DeleteI absolutely love it! A pity they don't offer the 4-drawer malm or so, as someone suggests. I love industrial-looking furniture, like the one you can buy at Maisons du Monde, but their quality and price relationship cannot compare to Ikea's
ReplyDeleteThis is just lovely, I'd love to apply this weathered pine look to other pine furniture from Ikea! I have a plain dining room table that is simply aching to be individualized with a nice weathered look. Just wondering, is this much blue-er in real life than the photo? I want a weathered look but I'm very conscious of it looking a bit too blue ... or maybe Annie Sloan has a more grey colour I could play with :)
ReplyDeleteno, this isn't blue at all. totally has the rustic restoration hardware wood look. best part is the price! super cheap and easy to do. would be great if Ikea offered larger sizes, esp as the kids get older and their clothes get larger!
