Materials: Ordning cutlery stand

I had an extra Ordning cutlery stand and decided to give it a different use.

As an outdoor enthusiast I decided to convert the stand into a wood-burning (hobo) stove for camping.

Cut a ‘window’ with a Dremel tool to create a ‘window’ to feed the stove with wood. And that’s it, you have an Ikea Hobo Stove.

You can use the holes to insert two tent sticks to hold a pot. The holes also allow the right ventilation needed for the burn.

    i use this along with a siege stove and it is amazing. I’ve been using hobo stoves for about 40 years , from coffee cans to no.10 or soup cans and buy far these two are the cats meow.

    I believe this would work better if 50/60% of the holes were sealed – particularly away from the bottom – in order to force an airflow. I am going to experiment this spring with a smaller IKEA “can” inside a larger one.

    Thanks for the comments.
    @rollinger – I used a Dremel #420 cut-off wheel and a Dremel #407 sanding band.

    We used to make those stoves out of cans, when we were kids, and balance a potato on top to cook. Miracle we didn’t ever start a forest fire…
