Bringing the Kitchen into the Bedroom
Materials: Akurum/Adel with Komplement wire baskets
Description: The beautiful warm wood finish of the ADEL kitchen door and drawer fronts suited our master bedroom decor better than any of the finishes in the PAX closet line. So we decided to make our bedroom closet out of kitchen cabinets. But the AKURUM kitchen cabinets didn't have any of the closet accessories such as the wire basket drawers and hanger rods.
We combined 3 AKURUM High Cabinets with 2 drawers. The center cabinet is a TV/media center and is flanked on either side by clothing closet cabinets.
Since the AKURUM interiors are 1/2 inch wider than the KOMPLEMENT closet fixtures we had to add 1/4 inch plastic spacers (found at any hardware store) to get the wire drawers and hanger rods to fit inside the AKURUM cabinets.

"But the AKURUM kitchen cabinets didn't have any of the closet accessories such as the wire basket drawers and hanger rods." This makes me wonder, as at least here Ikea sells wire baskets for kitchen kabinets as well, and they are of MUCH better quality than those in the Komplement series.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I really like the idea of using kitchen kabinets, as they are of better quality than the wardrobes Ikea is selling (which can be seen in the length of the warranty as well). AND they are often better looking, just like here.

LOVE this! Wishing they would have a blog or something, explaining a bit more how they did this. The Pax series is too tall for our bedroom. I hope if Cece or George reads this comment, I would love to correspond a bit more about how they did this project.

Is it just me, or is this whole thing just a really bad photoshop mockup? Where's the cat's tail? Why does the whole thing look so weird?
ReplyDeleteIt's just you.
ReplyDeleteThe reason they did not use the Rationell wire baskets is that they only come up to 24" widths and they used three 30" High Pantry Cabinets, the only options for those cabinets are hinged doors, shelves and drawers with fronts (no Pullouts available)
ReplyDeleteI think it looks very attractive.
ReplyDeleteThe cat is a tailless manx. She's nature's version of a "cat hack."

I'd like to know more about the 1/4" plastic spacers - there's so many things that could mean in a hardware store. Cece or Gregg - could you give a link to a picture of what you used, please? I'm looking to replicate this in our bedroom, too. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSame here; it would be nice to see an up-close pic of the baskets and rails in the cupboard too.
DeleteIts overpriced particleboard.
ReplyDeleteIts garbage
Why in the world would you come to an IKEA website to trash the product?
DeleteThis "garbage" comes with 50-year warranty and much, much better hardware than is standard for any American producer I've seen. All that at a fraction of the price and better design.
