The Buddhist Kitchen
Materials: Akurum/Ramsjo Kitchen
Description: Because of it popularity and affordability IKEA kitchens are everywhere and, frankly, one can recognize it right away. In this kitchen we decided to make it unrecognizable by adding bamboo counters and non-IKEA handles. Then we pained wall into non-traditional "fun" colors and added spots of red everywhere! It is also complemented by "Buddhist" accessories, such as Lucky Crystals and Buddha statues.
Hope you like this one!

Looks great! Personally, I love Ikea kitchens, but there are some Ikea haters out there. It looks like Ikea lovers will pick up on your Ikea kitchen, and the haters won't know unless they find an Ikea sticker. Best of both worlds :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!
ReplyDeleteCould you please explain how did you make the sideboard ? I am looking for one for a long time but ikea has some of the most boring sideboard / buffets available.
Absolutely stunning!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and so creative. I love the bamboo wrap around the sideboard. The green color on the wall is fabulous...it would be difficult for me not to paint more walls that color. That would be stunning.
ReplyDeleteI agree, how did you wrap the bamboo all the way around the sideboard like that?? i love this though absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of cabinets were used for the sideboard..wall or base?
ReplyDeletewow, looks like you have a spacey room. The kitchen is great, and couldn't agree more... ikea kitchen are everywhere!

Hi everyone!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the positive feedback!
For the buffet/sideboard, we used 12" deep wall cabinets from the same Ramsjo cabinet series.
The bamboo was a 3/4" laminated sheet with a built up 2" edge c/w mitered corners.

Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting look taking the bamboo right down to the floor! Like it.

I think you mean that this is your idea of an Asian-inspired kitchen. The kitchen itself has nothing to do with Buddhism in any way. 'Lucky Crystals' are not a part of Buddhism anymore than pictures of babies are part of Christianity. Buddhism is not a decorating style; it's a religion, and it takes many different forms. Some of those forms can be fairly cluttered and gaudy. While 'Zen' is a subset of Buddhist belief, in the West it's come to be used as a shorthand for simple, peaceful, uncluttered, natural, Japanese-inspired. If you decorated your kitchen with Spanish style crosses and pictures of Spanish churches, I doubt you would call it a Christian kitchen (in fact, a lot of people would get offended if you did). You would probably call it a Spanish-influenced kitchen.
ReplyDeleteThat said, it's a nice kitchen. But does it really have anything to do with Buddhism? It doesn't look like it.
