Repurposing spice racks into children's bookshelves
Nothing hacked but it's a nice idea which I thought deserved to be shared. ~ Jules
Materials: BEKVAM Spice Racks
Description: We wanted bookshelves for our children's room that had books facing out, but all of the existing shelves we found were entirely too expensive. These fit the bill and fit perfectly into the small space available to add them.
Not much needed in the way of instructions. Hang as you would the spice racks - you put screws in the walls and hook the shelves on the screw using the space that comes pre-installed on the shelves.
See more of the Bekvam kid's book shelf.

I want to use this idea! nothing worse than books everywhere
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea & may have to adopt it for my own children!
ReplyDeleteSimple and great !!! Thank you for the idea !
ReplyDeleteVery clever actually, I agree! The sort of thing I'd never think of myself ... Might steal this, too.
ReplyDeletejules, by your own defiition "an IKEA hack is a modification/repurposing of an IKEA product"... so this IS a bona fide hack and a wicked nifty idea!
ReplyDelete:)
I had this idea, but never put to use bc i want to paint white. i think these go for $6 each, and you can buy a madison one at a PB fancy store book rack for $120
ReplyDeletebut everytime i try to buy it i come back to these.
forward facing books are better for kids bc booksinterest them more than the book binding boring backs :)
I like the hack but I am more excited by the retro feel you achieved in the photos. They look great.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cute idea....I just bought one of these to use for spices over the stove, I might have to try this out for the kids.
ReplyDeleteHow secure are these when mounted to the wall? I'm afraid that my kids would pull them down trying to get a book out.
ReplyDeleteI want the kid that's vacuuming! :) And the shelves are cute also!
ReplyDeletelove it going to use it for me to store my craft books and mag. thanks
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I love it!
ReplyDeleteLove it! (said in Oprah voice) I am going to hack this idea for myself!!!
ReplyDeleteWant the kid that vacuming? :S That is creepy people don't post pictures of your kids on the internet please. This is just friendly advice.
ReplyDeleteI'd like a kid who vacuums too, it's not creepy to want a kid that helps out, I think you're being a bit sensitive. There is nothing untoward that anyone could do to these pictures, they are totally innocent. If the kids were naked maybe there'd be a problem there, but just normal family pictures cannot be used in anyway that is sinister and it would be a crying shame if the internet was censored in such a way.
ReplyDeletecan't wait to try this! thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeletebrilliant idea, going to try this for myself for my little boyss bedroom may also purchase some white paint or blue or yellow might do 1 white 1 yellow and 1 blue there problem solved lol thanks for the idea :)
ReplyDeleteMine are primed and ready to be painted tonight! Thanks for the great idea.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what I was looking for, thank you very much guys for posting such creative ideas. And thank you for this site!
ReplyDeleteA brilliant idea - see the result here http://instagr.am/p/VpF5YVzCA5/
ReplyDeleteAny idea on where we can find the spice racks? They seem to be sold out with no listed re-stock date on Ikea's website. Is there an alternate product that can be used to make this more affordable project? *pout*!
ReplyDeleteYou can also buy these on Amazon, but they are more expense. 1 for $14 for a 4-pack for $32.
