Nice effort, good job getting it all to fit right. As open-minded as I'm trying to be, though, I just don't like it so much.

ReplyDelete"Really, really wrong" doesn't make it look good, it makes it look even worse. Tastes do differ, but to me, this looks like something I would expect housing car parts in a garage.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think Ikea Hack I think, "that looks sleek and well put together." Good effort and idea, but I can say I'm a fan.

ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that many commenters on this site will only appreciate a hack if it resembles the polished pictures you find in one of the many glossy home decor mags.
ReplyDeleteWhile the colours of the cabinet doors may not be my favourites, I find it very well executed and I love the Tetris kind of feel to it!
I love it. And I'm normally someone who freaks out when not everything is perfect. I think I might kill somebody if just one of them were different from the rest, but because of all the variety there, I think it looks awesome.
ReplyDeleteI rather like it, too, it's got a certain charm about it that is comfy and isn't trying too hard. The one thing I might have done to unify everything was treat it all to some distressing and random sanding and beating with heavy chains, and then using vastly more outlandish knobs. By my standards, he did not go wrong enough. ;)
ReplyDeleteI think so too, some unifying paint or treatment would make me like it more for me, but I like it a is too.

ReplyDeleteI like the idea of mixing a kitchen up with different door styles, very much in fact. What I don't like the randomness of this example, but that's just me. To each his own.

ReplyDeleteIt's an interesting idea but poorly executed. Get some white cabinet spray paint and paint them all - then it might look ok.
I really LOVE this idea and I think it looks GREAT! (although, I think I would have attempted a pattern because I am OCD like that.) This kitchen would challenge my outlook on life on a daily basis.
ReplyDeleteI love this. I would have mismatched the handles/pulls too, instead of just painting the matching knobs different colors.
ReplyDeleteI agree with anonymous above, I'd like it if they were all painted the same color. The different shapes and textures would be cool without the distraction of the colors.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you love it, but keep this in mind if you ever sell the place. You'd want it to appeal to the majority of buyers.
Like some others, with my OCD these would drive me totally crazy. Also like some others, if they were at least all the same colour, it would be easier to swallow. All that said, I think it was an awesome idea for saving some major coin!
ReplyDeleteLove it!! Most people wouldn't think to do this, but by thinking outside the box you've made a kitchen that looks funky and stylish. I wish more people would be so bold with their interior decorating decisions.

ReplyDeleteNo, I think its intriguing to both go with a completely eclectic design of something that is normally so uniform... and also to do it in such a low cost way when its usually the most expensive room.
Even though its not my style, I really like what this kitchen does.
