Materials: Malm king size bed, 2 lamps (as normally used in kitchens), screws, wire and switch
Description: We had a baby and since we have to feed him at night we decided some "soft lighting" was needed in the bedroom. The idea was to install 2 lamps, as the ones normally used in kitchens under the bed structure with 2 screws per lamp. The wires go to a switch screwed in the back of the bed. The light reflects in the floor and provides enough light to feed, change diapers and so, without "blinding" none of the people in the bedroom!

Looks awesome! My only concern is whether there is any danger of an electrical short causing a fire at all.

ReplyDeleteI would however use some LED lights instead as they won't get as hot and are much harder to break (and don't break as badly if you somehow manage to anyway).

ReplyDeleteI have a similar setup. I initially used all blue Christmas lights but was worried about the heat, as I have carpet in the bedroom, so I bought all-blue LED Christmas lights. They run cool and use very little power. Just under 1 watt I think. They aren't as bright as this example but they are good enough to just see around the room and dim enough to sleep while they are on.

ReplyDeleteAwesome Idea!!!, But I would Definitely use LEDs since they do not get as hot. The regular bulbs would worry me a bit especially if a blanket somehow touches it for a little too long
ReplyDeleteLED Light rope is available at most any big box home improvement store and will produce more even light and use almost no power and generate no heat. If you get "fancy" search for "RGB LIGHT ROPE" on ebay and buy one that let's you change the color based on your mood.
ReplyDeleteLol, if you're getting up for night feeds and the like your mood will most likely be "rotten". A bright, pulsing red light? Or maybe venomous green? :P

ReplyDeleteWe didnt use led since they were much more expensive.the lamps are not white but yellow light.we installed it 5 months ago with no heating problems,but the wires must be carefully installed to avoid pulling them when cleaning under the bed :)

ReplyDeleteI love the idea of having lights under my bed. By that, I don't have to put on light whenever I'm going to the bathroom at night. And I think it looks kind of great and unique.

ReplyDeleteNice I have done a similar mod but I used a couple of IKEA leds a nexa remote switch and a motion detector.
ReplyDeleteThe motion detector is placed on the floor, set to turn on the lights only when it is dark in the room and something moves on the floor. It also turns of the light after a preset amount of minutes. Only have to get out of the bed or walk in the room to turn on the light :)
