Standing Desks on the cheap

Materials: VIKA AMON, PVC, Drill Press

Description: Two inch PVC fits the outside dimensions of the VIKA legs perfectly. At our coworking space, we converted 3 desks to be standing height for the cost of 2 10' sections of pipe, and 8 bolts with nuts. A drill press made creating the holes easy and we even made 5 holes on each leg so they are adjustable.

  4. Could you give a bit more description on this. It is exactly what I am looking for! I have made my own desk with those same legs but now want a standing desk. How do you secure the PVC into the legs? What do you mean by they are adjustable, how is this done?

A more close up picture (or more clear) would go a long way too.

    Thanks much!

  5. What I'm guessing they did was drill holes through the PVC piping, then thread a bolt through the drilled holes, using a nut & washer combo as a stop point below the original VIKA feet. They basically made leg extenders for a pre-existing product.
Strong work! I'll be doing this on my next workstation.

  6. Absolutely love it! Ikea hacks are awesome, and this is one of my favorites. If you're interested, I just did a write up of some of my favorite creative designs involving Ikea components: http://www.glenwoodnyc.com/manhattan-living/ikea-hacks-best-creative-designs/#more-676

  8. the vika legs have little pads on them that are wider than the actual post of the leg itself. the post is 2", the pads must make it 2.25" - spose i can find a 2.25" PVC internal dia pipe...

  9. solved: the vika leg pads come off if you twist them while working them out, no tools needed. (Just needed a lot of elbow grease.) In fact the pads will fit inside the PVC pipe I got nicely! 2" pipe fits the legs like a glove!

Will not be wobbly. Was originally planning 20" of pipe for 8" increase in height (ie 12" of pipe for support above the bolt, but it fights so tight I bet you could raise that to only 4" - so i could raise the height with boltholes to 16" increase likely (certainly 12" probably 15-16"!)
