Build a Rietveld-inspired chair with NUMERAR countertop

Materials: NUMERAR + plywood + paint (red, blue, black, yellow)

Description: Rietveld designed this red-blue chair in 1923, inspired by Mondrian.

1. I had some spare NUMERAR countertop (28mm thick)
2. The chair is made from 28mmx28mm sticks that you prepare, following instructions downloadable here.
3. Paint them in black (see picture above)
4. Buy 2 plywood rectangles, paint large one in red, small one in blue
5. Assemble and finish painting

  1. I wish I had a big enough space to allow for such a style over substance seating choice because this is easily one of my favorite hacks of all time. I'm probably going to do it anyway. If my guests don't like it, they can go sit in somebody else's house.

  2. I've got one. The same one ;) (and I'm French too)
And I did it by myself too, but mine isn't a ikea hack. I love that chair. I love Rietveld, I love the Schröder House, and I love DeStijl.

  3. Hahaha... Awesome. I think it's a cute chair, but in miniature. Great work, though. Wouldn't know it was a fake... then again, I haven't had a chance to examine one up close.

  4. Is the chair comfortable to sit on? I'm planning to make one myself.
