Fixing the PAX Sliding Door

Materials: Pax

Description:
I wanted to share my hack because I thought it might give a few people with broken panels in their sliding doors hope. In efforts to save money on my wardrobe, I purchased my PAX used off of Craigslist. I saved $1,500, but had the problem of a door front that wasn't to my taste (the black EIKESDAL) and a glass panel that was shattered (IKEA doesn't sell replacement panels).

To fix the problem, I simply bought enough upholstery fabric to cover the panels, had a thin piece of plywood cut to the same size as the glass panels, and used duct tape to keep the fabric. After painting the "wooden" portions white and assembling the door, I ended up with a great wardrobe at a fraction of the price!

Here's more about how I made the doors and my finished wardrobe all put together.

  4. T@ski~ The bed was actually from Storehouse Furniture (which is now out of business), but it is still being made by Copeland Furniture: http://www.copelandfurniture.com/collection.php?id=1
Although, I'm not using it in my master bedroom anymore, I can vouch that the quality and finish of the wood is absolutely amazing!

  5. this is great! my boyfriend and i are looking to get a bunch of these wardrobes for our new place, but would like to de-ikea-ify them.
    a few questions...
did you replace all of the panels with plywood, or just the broken one?
also, what paint did you use for the frame? i'm not sure if there's a special kind that i should use on the fake wood/laminate situation.
    thanks!

Great fix and a good save as I imagine you might could find one cheap on craigs list...id also add that you could do a shoji type shade and use rice paper?? those are so hot right now and the glow if it has a light makes it basically a huge shoji lamp!
