Patrull air cleaner hack

Materials: Patrull air cleaner, switch

Description: For some bizarre reason, the Patrull air cleaner doesn’t have an off switch. It’s annoying to always have to pull and insert the plug, hence this hack.

I cut the cable and added a generic cable switch. Problem solved

Note: I’m sure this hack voids your warranty. I don’t explain the details because you shouldn’t attempt something like this if you’re not knowledgeable enough about electronics that you’d need an explanation…

For such things I just use a switchable power outlet adaptor, like this:

And it doesn’t affect your guarantee.

Last week, I changed a light bulb in my Ikea lamp. Should I write it up, since obviously anything qualifies as “hack” now?

since the device is a Class II-appliance which is secure for use without “earth”, modification using any cheap switch like this potetially makes the device dangerous.
The tip should be removed or marked as not recommended,

goran, imagine how dangerous it would be if it were switched on 100% of the time!
relax buddy, it’ll be just fine.

Hi there. How long have these been available where you are? I see them on the IKEA sites of other countries but none in the US yet.

Wow… yeah, it’s not that impressive just adding a switch to a cord… but is there really any reason for you commenters to be jerks to the poster?

Yes, it’s easy and kind of a pointless post without any instructions, but being mean is even LESS useful.

The air filter is meant to run 24 hours a day for maximum benefit – it is designed to do this and at an extremely low power wattage (£8 / year).
