VikaLight
Materials: Vika Oleby Table leg, Hemma Cord set, Orgel paper shade, drywall anchors
Description: This is a $25 alternative to boring/ugly/expensive lighting. I installed one on each side of my living room.
It's very easy--just secure the table leg into the wall with some drywall anchors, secure the cord to the top of the leg with one of those little plastic cord tie-down things, and there you go.
I still plan to secure the cord to the wall and paint it to match the wall color.

Wonderful! I like it.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I have looked high and low for lights to attach to the wall and have never been able to find any to suit me. This looks like the answer. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteretain the cord in some way. either pass it into the wall above the wooden shelf, or use a camouflaged cable raceway to bring the cable down. (ie, paint a paintable cable raceway the same color as the wall)
ReplyDeleteI like this a lot and I'm thinking about setting it up as lighting in my closet. But I'm wondering: does this have a switch, or is it always on if it's plugged in?
ReplyDeleteIf you're thinking about painting the cable - don't! It is so much better the way it is. I'd even change the cable to red/orange one.
ReplyDeleteI'd put this lower myself, either on the wall or with a longer hanging cord. That waving cord should at least be secured to the wall, or made the color of the wall, or as someone says above, an off color like yellow or orange. That blank wall is crying out for a nice Ikea unit for stuff!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this hack. I was searching high and low for something like this.
