Materials: Eina, duct tape
Description: We wanted a bed for our 4-year-old son, and after purchasing a second-hand disaster that kept falling apart on us, we decided to go for something simple. IKEA! The only problem is that we didn't really like any of their twin beds, and the space in our son's room was tight. So we bought a simple Eina bed, but wanted to spruce it up. Our son had specifically requested a rainbow bed, so we set out to do a kind of swirly, mixed-up paint job.
Well, I'm not sure what it's made out of, but you CAN'T paint it. We tried, scraped it all off, sanded, tried again.....no dice. The paint just flakes right off. Frustrated and tired of the whole bed issue, we weren't sure what we were going to do.
Then I found the Tape Brothers site, and the answer was clear. Duct Tape!
After ordering 7 rolls of 1-inch duct tape (in rainbow colors, of course), we set to work. We banded the edges with black Gorilla tape
, set down the stripes along each board, put it together and voila! A beautiful rainbow bed. Our son is thrilled, and we're pretty happy with the way it turned out.

ReplyDeleteHaha! I know duct tape fixes everything, but I never would have thought of this. It should hold up well, and if the tape ever does start to peel or look funky, you can always peel it off and/or put on a fresh layer. Love it!

ReplyDeleteForgot to ask... How much did it end up costing and how much time did it take? I assume it didn't require using up all or most of the tape, so you still have some left over for more duct tape projects! :D

I dont mean to be mean, but rainbow flag is the color for gay pride. Not sure if you meant to do that, but something to consider for the your kid if his friend's come over.

DeleteSo the question is, are you raising your gay *or* straight child to be inclusive and appreciative of diversity? If so, the rainbow's the best symbol in the world.
I suspect our anonymous concern troll was not raised to appreciate that everyone deserves to take pride in themselves.
Wowww some people allow there ignorance to show. He is a CHILD there for im sure he just like the colors of the rainbow an does not in an way think of it as the "rainbow flag" get a life.
DeleteBootstripe tape (for use on boats) might also work well if you don't want a ductape looking finish.

ReplyDeleteWe have this bed, but the problem is that the legs are HORRIBLE! They are not sturdy at all and always seem to be at an angle. If you shift your weight when you're in this bed, the legs really wobbles. Am worried that the legs would just collapse. Any thoughts?
