Materials: Lack and Anno Stra screens
Description: I was looking for a way to provide kitty potty privacy and also take away from the "look, this is where my cat poops" decor of the living room of our condo.
So, I took two Lack tables, and one roll of Anno Stra window screens, as well as some sticky backed velcro.
1)Assemble the tables
2)Measure the screens to fit between two legs of the table and adhere with sticky velcro. I used velcro in case there was damage to the screens. (Who knows what kitties will like to scratch!)
3) Repeat to cover 3 or 4 frames, creating a tunnel beneath the tables for for the kitty litterbox and the mat that wipes their paws.
Easy as that! The cats, I believe, appreciate the privacy and it creates a new surface for coffee table books, our Aerogarden, or couch throw blankets.
If you litterbox doesn't fit I thought about adding casters also to make it easier to pull in/out to clean the litter.

ReplyDeleteI am so going to do this hack!! My litter box is a bit tall, so I'll have to add casters, but that will probably actually make it easier to get to the box for cleaning. Thanks so much for the idea!

ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome idea. I have a small apartment. I clean my litter box every two days or so. If you deodorize the litter it practically eliminates the odor. I'm going to do something similar along the wall of my living room, and put a lamp on top.

ReplyDeleteThis is definitely the most efficient/inexpensive and least time consuming technique I've found so far! I am moving into a huge loft-studio in the city soon, and needed an idea like this to make a litter box work in the huge 1 room without it being an eye-sore. Thanks for posting this! :-)

ReplyDeleteWhile I like the idea (and it certainly looks nice), maybe not so practical. I see this as being a nuisance. Perhaps I clean the litter box more often than some (we have two cats and I clean it twice a day), but having to "disassemble" this twice a day and put everything back...meh.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to figure out what litterbox is short enough for this...isn't the length from the bottom to the underside of the table just 15 3/4"? All enclosed litterboxes that I can find are at least 20" tall.
ReplyDeleteI made this for my new apartment and it is GREAT! It looks like a bench and am considering buying (or making) a couple cushions to put on top (Urban outfitters has square corduroy cushions as an FYI). I did not use the bamboo Anno Stra screens because my cat is not declawed and I fear he would tear them to shreds but they have various other types of screens at IKEA in different colors. I chose the screen in a black and white print. It seemed a little sturdier to me. As for the convenience issue that one person commented on in regards to cleaning. It's really not that big a deal. I have the screen on the end positioned in such a way that I just pull the screen off, slide the box out, clean it and then put the screen back on. I have hardwood floors so my issue right now is finding something that will trap the litter so that it is not all over the floor. I have a rug in there for the kitty to wipe his paws but I still find litter surrounding the box when from when he steps out.
