- Used Mayonnaise bottle lid on the under surface of table with screw.
- Drill a hole in table and lid.
- Fill water on the bottle.
- Screw bottle.
Only 5 minutes.

That is just brilliant! I accidently drilled a hole in my Lacktable and it makes a very nice pencilholder, but this is a way better use of a hole!

ReplyDeleteI like this idea but don't like cut flowers, I wonder if a similar result could be obtained with a larger screw top vessel, a larger hole in the table and a living plant in potting compost.

Ideally something like lavender or chamomile.
it surely depends on your taste and sensibility, lilnick. maybe you should drill a two-levels-hole (i mean like that it's not falling on the ground), and not throw the part your cutting(may be sawing the correct word?), like that you can use the circle to close the hole when you don't have a plant in it. lavender and chamomille to me are too big in a centerpiece: you may need a rectangular shaped living plant.

or....why not hack a hack? (sorry i cannot find the link) do you remember that little kitchen cabinet coming from four lack bedside table and a top? it was a perfect sidetable, an helping surface in your kitchen, and if you drill it....

ReplyDeleteYou could drill through the table and then glue a mason jar ring to the underside. That way you could see just where to glue and you wouldn't have to drill through the lid, too. Maybe you don't mind drilling through the lid, but to me it's sort of klugey, I don't know why. I love the look, but I think my husband would kill me if I drilled a hole in any of our tables!

ReplyDeleteTOTALLY agree with you on the catbox thing. It seems cats always win when it comes to teh internets.
But forreals though. This is "Muji" like in it's simplistic beauty. Gotta love the japanese aesthetic.
As far as putting something larger in the centre of the table, if you wanted to keep the piece that is cut out you would just have to cut at an angle (like when you carve a pumpkin) so it will still sit in place when there is no plant in the hole.
