She says, "I just did a nice little ikea hack and thought I would share. It's involving the Mikael computer table on casters in the all white color. I was beyond tired of being able to see the nasty tangle of computer cords hanging down in the back. Cords are a necessary evil, yes, but still evil! So I decided to cover the back of the computer desk to hide them from view.
I went to Lowe's and bought a piece of precut wainscoting
Then I pre-drilled some holes in the corners and on the sides and nailed it on to the back of the computer desk. I also took off the top panel that came with the desk so that you can see the wainscoting throughout. Problem solved, you can't see the ugly cords anymore! Plus it gives it a nice polished look, kind of mixing modern with traditional styles. All in all it took about 2 hours and cost less than $10."

Wait - you've got a 30' Cinema Display for like 1800$, a Mac Pro for at least 2500$, speakers for about 100$, a little plastic cow for 5$ - and then you buy a desk for 50$? Come on. You should be at your local IKEA buying a new desk which is mentionable wider than the display, e.g. the 'big' Mikael.
ReplyDeleteDespite this I like your hack :)
I'd like to pretend that diploma says "University of North Korea".
ReplyDeleteGood hack anyway, very clean look overall.
Its University of North Texas :P
ReplyDeletePerhaps they bought the desk before the awesome computer. But nice and crisp.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I have this desk, and I NEEDED this hack!!
ReplyDeleteI dont see any difference in the pictures?! (other than the chair)

ReplyDeleteBeth added something like a backside.
Good hack. More useful than most I see on here. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI dont get it. Whats the hack...?
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine sitting at that desk, all close with a huge screen. Its like IMAX at home. Next step, 3D!
ReplyDeleteVery cool. I like the fact you didn't go and buy a $500 desk for your computer. And in deference to "Anonymous" the reason some folks have expensive computer set ups is they are willing to hack the furniture to get whay they want. Anyway you got a nice desk and it didn't break the bank!
ReplyDeleteWaste of time.. could have just used zip ties and bundled up the cords, tucking them out of sight.
ReplyDeleteOr you can mount the SIGNUM cable management rack to the back panel, and, voila, no cables!
ReplyDeleteactually, the signum cost, depending on the type you buy, also between 5 and 10 $. to be honest, I think this hack might actually have been the more elegant solution than having those dangling pouches, probably still in relatively plain view....
ReplyDeletei think the hack is much better than attaching cords together! or putting a cord management system!
ReplyDeleteIt looks awesome!
xx
to much mac..
