Side chairs into mid-century-ish club chairs

Tim gives a new mid-century twist to these side chairs.

"I'm not sure what the Ikea name for these side chairs is, but they were old and wobbly and the back legs were breaking off. I made a simple base out of 2x10's and used the original arms from the ikea chair as a curvaceous way to hold up the back and keep it strong. My wife, Susan, stitched up ...

... the leather slip covers based on the old (removed) ones. She actually used some leather from a discarded Ikea leather upholstery sample. Now they're comfortable, low armless loungers."

  7. Marjeral,
I'm a wine maker on Virginia. My wife makes roller derby accessories (google "Derby Vixen"). I do stuff like this for fun and because I'm cheap.
Thanks for the kind words everyone. And thanks to Jules for this great site

  8. Marjeral,

You should also know that talented Tim and his (equally talented) wife, while not residents of Austin, have a very good friend who resides there -- me! I think Tim should make some more furniture and load up a van and his wife and VISIT HIS FRIEND in Austin! Maybe if you can convince him that he needs to come to Austin to sell his cool furniture, then he would. Whaddya say?

  9. WOW! I can't decide if my favorite part of the design is the leatherwork or the way they used the original arms as arches in the back. These are awesome!

  10. You should see what Tim can do with an old iron and a lightbulb! He is the McGyver of interior design and furniture. Susan is a super talented seamstress, obviously. Kudos to you both! JR

  12. Looks great, it is all good, leatherwork and woodwork. I think we need to stop by and see how they feel.
