Do a Panna?
Over at Apartment Therapy, the good folks came out with an idea on turning the humble (and cheap) Tullsta into a designer Tokujin Yoshioka Panna chair. Batting, moving blankets and a staple gun may be all you need to replicate your own. What do you think?

Both the original and the DIY look very uncomfortable. The seat would be sagging after awhile . I think my cat wouldlike it
ReplyDeleteWhat do I think? I think that the second chair looks like it has moving blankets stapled to it. It looks awful. I can't believe this is a look people are trying to emulate. It never amazes me what people with more dollars than sense are willing to shell out money for.

ReplyDeleteIt does beg the question WHY would you do it? Other than to make a point and a joke about the designer original. It's comical how something that would normally be called "slipshod and scruffy" gets turned into "excitingly raw and edgy" by having a designer's name attached. Slipcovers put on inside out. Whatever next.
ReplyDeleteI looked at the site of the original chair and I believe as the name suggests, the chair is made of some special material and is baked like a bread. It's not just aesthetics, it's a whole concept. On the other hand, seeing something online that you like the look of but, can't afford and then making your own ROCKS!
ReplyDeleteWe have a Tullsta chair in the living room; six years old and still comfy and in good shape. We did get it a new slipcover, but one made to fit, (not a moving blanket stapled on) I'm tempted to try making my own slipcover, but out of proper upholstery fabric, using the old slipcover as a pattern. If you are a very tall person the Tullsta might not be comfy, as it is a small-ish armchair, but for me it is perfect!
