We have an old hack we made 6 years ago, as we had to visit Ikea several times. It all came because we started collecting lots of pencils they give for free in Ikea, as we thought it was great to have a free material. And we said: we have to think what we could make new out of them.
One day, we got the idea to create a pencil holder made out of pencils. We attach you the final image and how we made it (extremely easy!).
It's name is "lapicientos", a play on words in Spanish: lapicero (pencil holder) + lapiz (pencil) + cientos (hundreds)."
Officially, they don't give you the pencils for free, they let you lend it. But nobody ever puts them back after shopping.
ReplyDeleteLast month, we had an ecoproject running in our store and the cashiers specifically asked each client to return the pencil but it didn't seem like much people wanted to give them back...

Nice.. Be careful though, these pencils are mighty sharp :)
ReplyDeleteLooks kind of neat, but it seems like a waste to use about 40 pencils to make a pencil holder that holds far fewer than that.
ReplyDeleteIt's cute, but uncool to steal pencils to make one! The same concept could be used on old pencils, colored pencils, crayons, markers, or pens from your own supplies. Or buy a set of something at Ikea or other store. If you want them to look the same, get out your paint. One could also glue pencils, etc to an empty can or box.

ReplyDeleteHey I know those pens! I prefer them as a pencup. Just seeing them reminds me of the stress I feel when I know I've got to load up all that stuff on my own.

Just to let you know, even though lapicero does mean pencil holder, it's not the most used meaning for that word, it is often used as pencil itself, and in Spain most people won't understand it with that meaning, the most used word is 'portalápices'

ReplyDeleteGreat, now everyone is going to start using the pencils to make things and then Ikea will stop providing them and the people who just need to jot something down really quick will have nothing to depend on when they forget their own pens at home. Thanks a lot.

ReplyDelete@Duke I'm Spanish and I know no one who uses portalápices instead of lapicero, and they certainly understand it with that meaning. It is also not a regional thing since I live far from Barcelona where this was created. I don't know about other Spanish speaking countries, but that's definitely not the case in Spain.
