Here's a little contraption from Andrew, that's just right if you like working on your laptop while sitting on the floor.
"I wanted something that would hold my laptop while I was sitting on the floor or lying on my bed, without having it lie directly on me (when I was lying down the weight caused some discomfort for my stomach, and while sitting down the position strained my back.)
So I bought the Ikea Magasin dish rack for $5 and modified it into a little table with about 12 bolts and some sawing and drilling. It worked out quite well."
Here's how it looks in action
and folded up.

Very cute! Sadly my version is even easier ... I just bought a breakfast in bed tray (from ikea too I think)it was perfect when I lived in an appartment where the bedroom was the only one that was actually warm.
ReplyDeleteI wish there were some instructions on how to accomplish this!
ReplyDelete"12 bolts, sawing and drilling" ??
ReplyDeleteYes, I'd like to know a little more too. Could more pictures be provided to show what you did exactly?
ReplyDeletehi everyone,
ReplyDeleteSorry, I should have gone into more detail about the building process. I'll try to write up some more details about how i did it and then i'll post a link here, hopefully in the next couple days.
andrew.
I like Ikea stuff cos its easy and all, but teh nearest store is so da.. far :(
ReplyDeleteI agree with foodmathsquilts an IKEA breakfast tray is simply the best for my laptop especially when working from my bed. Also the sides keep everything on the tray however don't keep liquids on it at the same time otherwise oops! drilling screws? just not worth the time and effort when much simpler solutions arounds
ReplyDeleteLooks very flimsy.
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one that got stuck with the header:
ReplyDelete"laptop stand for WORKING in BED"
lol
I might just have gone with the breakfast tray if i'd seen it! I'll keep an eye out next time i'm there.
ReplyDeleteBut anyways, i put together an instructions page if anyone was curious about it:

Hey, I think this is pretty nifty, as it will definitely give a good angle of view and good air flow to keep it cool, but as otehr say, it's much easier using a tray...
ReplyDeleteGood work though!
