Solangie transformed an Expedit shelving unit into a bar counter for an open kitchen. Nice one.
"I bought the Expedit shelving unit and placed it horizontally. Then went to Home Depot and bought two peace of lumber 2x4 and made a base to bring it up by 7". Also I got a plywood, cut it to fit the shelving unit (I wanted to hide it and not leave open on both sides) and spray painted the plywood black. I used the Lagan countertop which only cost $40 dollars for 8'. And here is my result."

Very nice! It fits in very well with your existing kitchen. Great job!

Well done! This project makes me wish I had a need for a peninsula. Kudos!
ReplyDeleteOutstanding!
ReplyDeleteNot bad, but I'm wondering about the stability. I'm guessing you keep the heavy stuff (cast iron, heavy sheet pans, crock pot, etc..) near the bottom, but I would imagine that the thing still wobbles quite a bit when you're working on it. Having something that tall without some kind of structural support being lent to it from the wall and floor like traditional cabinets would worry me. Especially if I had guests (or worse, guests with children) over.
ReplyDeleteI also had this idea in mind but not succeed here I pleased I'll definetely try again and I'll come back to convey feedback.

ReplyDeleteI dont keep pots and pans there. It is more of a home bar. My husband screw it to the floor and wall so is very sturdy, it doesn't move at all.
ReplyDeletethanks for the comments!
