Children's front facing book rack

This is simple hack but I like it. Becca found a great way to display children's books or any books for that matter, facing front.

"We made this children's book rack by adding a bar on each shelf, so that the books can be displayed facing front. This is an inexpensive Billy bookshelf from Ikea ($40). And the bars are mouldings purchased from Lowes (about $5 total)."

  1. I love the idea, especially because you could make the bookshelf grow with your child by potentially just removing the mouldings down the road... for when they don't need the "picture book display" anymore :)

  2. We've been looking for something to display our many photobooks that we make from shutterfly and this might just fit the bill. Thanks

  3. simple and cute = great hack.

You can sometimes find "odd" shelves in the As-Is section which you could cut down for depth as well - but in fact the mouldings might well be cheaper and prettier. Probably more a consideration for the non-white bookcases where getting matching colour is going to be more tricky.

  4. This is really beautiful and I believe the display of the books in this manner solicits them to be read.

  5. Thank-you for this idea. I made this the other day and it couldn't have been easier. I was looking at purchasing a front display bookcase and the good ones were over $150. My total $20 - a used bookshelf off Craigslist $15 and moldings from my local hardware store $5. More money for books and toys!

  6. What did you use to attach the mouldings? Nails, glue, epoxy?
