DJ turntable setup out Ikea media center

David salvages an old Ikea media unit and whips it into a DJ desk.

"I was looking for a desk to house a pair of Technics 1200 turntables. They're fairly wide, so most desks don't accommodate them. DJ desks can come in at around $600, which is far more than I wanted to spend. I had this Ikea media center I bought in 2006 that almost fit, but not quite. So I bought some lumber from Home Depot, stained it, and attached it. It was about $26 in lumber and only took an afternoon to assemble. The key is that the top of the media center popped off, so I could attach the posts securely. It may be similar to Linnarp, but I can't find the exact model. The top part of the media center is part of the original Ikea unit. (solid pine). The posts and the top surface of the desk are from Home Depot."

  2. Does Ikea have anything that can be used as Monitors (Speakers) Stands? My monitors weight about 15 kg each....

  3. I find an expedit 2 x 8 hole bookcase on its side is the perfect height and depth for decks plus the storage underneath takes 12inchers perfectly.

  4. The Expedit bookcase on its side makes an excellent dj console, perfect for 2 technics turntables & a decent sized mixer (Like DJM600 or similiar). If you find it isnt high enough get the expedit castors aswell and attach them, that will bring the surface up a few inches. Having the castors means you can easily adjust the position of your decks when having a party if needs be.

  5. I'm in love with DJ stations like this. Right now I'm using a modified Galant table that's wide and deep enough to accommodate my turntables and mixer, and an LCD and keyboard/mouse for the computer that's under the DJ station. This on the other hand, looks like it takes up less space!
