Since it's already cracked, she broke the rest of the Yankee Candle glass container. Then the candle is trimmed to fit the rectangular vase. Put the trimmings into the vase and microwave till almost melted. Push the trimmed candle into the melted wax and let the liquid fill in all the gaps. And there you have it!

you just need to make sure that you don't let the candle burn all the way down. the glass used for holding candles may be different than non-heatproof ones. the non-heatproof ones may shatter if they get too hot.

Agreed. A much better way to melt wax is to make a sort of double-boiler out of an old tin can and a saucepan of boiling water. It will also make a much better looking candle since the wax will melt evenly.

Allie, essential oils do not always release their scent when burned. It's better to use oils formulated especially for scenting candles.
ReplyDeleteIxnay on the microwave idea. The differential heating can crack your vase. Even the double boiler idea is a little risky. Don't bring it up to boiling too quickly, and let the vase cool down completely without removing it from the water.
If the Rektangel is not heat-safe, this is an incredibly foolish thing to do.
ReplyDeleteGlass containers like that may shatter from the flame's heat and send splinters of glass scattering when they break.
I agree with anonymous, don't microwave wax. It's volatile stuff. Some microwaves might be fine . . . but some of the more powerful ones could start a fire. Put the vase in a pot of water, on a cloth hot pad, and heat below boiling until melted.
ReplyDeleteIt's also vitally important to either use a tempered glass container, or be very careful to not let the candle burn too low in the vase, as the glass can and will break from the heat.
With those safety concerns in mind, this is a great way to save a favorite candle!
This is a great hack but you really need to be careful when busting glass, and even worse. Most of these wax's will "flash" on you (Catch Fire), if they get above 200degrees. So microwaving is very dangerous. If you are going to do it use the double boiler method mentioned above. Also I would suggest to start buying well formulated hand made candles that will actually burn down almost all the way til there is no wick left. No waste. One of the best and they have pictures of this on there site is FlamingFragrances.com Not only are they the best scented candles you will ever smell, but you can buy one of their candles in a container, and then just get their super scented melts and insert them in your leftover container and set it on a five dollar warmer available in many stores, and on their site. But, still a very good hack. Love the site.
