She says, "I used two Billy bookcases, a piano hinge, two hinges for the sewing machine fold out shelf and 8 wheels also from Ikea. The piano hinge holds the two Billy bookcases together, and the sewing machine shelf has two 5.5cm hinges to hold the fold out shelf. I also screwed the sewing machine shelf on the sides to the bookcase for extra support. Not quite sure about the weight you can put on it but it's been holding on pretty strong and my sewing machine is pretty heavy."

ReplyDeletea famous german kitchen brand, classy, high standard and really expensive (bau sth, i dont remember), has one double closet like that for the kitchen. i was thinking how to hack some ikea to have one in my kitchen too, without spending thounsands of euros. you have been faster than me ;))

ReplyDeleteThis isn't mzde from Billy's. They are Flarke bookcase(now discontinued). They are much lighter. It would be much heavier and less sturdy on the castors if you used a Billy.

too little space for serious sewing
ReplyDeleteSewing machine is very useful, but we must admit it takes a lot of space. This is a really neat idea of solving the problem!
