Wow! Huge improvement over the original. Nice work.
ReplyDeleteAgree with troy. I like this hack, well thought out and done.
ReplyDeletei should admit both idea and the performance are great.
ReplyDeleteWow. I never thought anyone could improve these chairs. This definnitely should get a "hack of the year" nomination. Now I wish I had bought some of these chairs!
ReplyDeleteThat rocks.
ReplyDeleteVery clever!
ReplyDeleteThose. Are. BEAUTIFUL.
ReplyDeletesimplemente, ¡genial!
ReplyDeletethat is, by far, one of the best ikea hacks I've seen. Looks better than the orignial chair.

ReplyDeletealuminum loop clamps would complete the look even more.
ReplyDeleteclick my name for a link where they can be purchased.
I have never commented on a hack but this is one of the best I have ever seen, I agree with the first commenter that they are now better than they were originally.
ReplyDeleteThis is totally brilliant! I love the stained wood, but I think they'd be great painted with a shiny outdoor enamel in a great color as well. Maybe my favorite hack ever.
ReplyDeletewow! this is fabulous
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! Wish they still sold this chair. :(
ReplyDeletedamn!! i had two of these chairs in lime green and put them on the curb when i moved from a 2 bd to a studio... now im back in a 2 bd with HUGE sundeck that needs more seats!
ReplyDeleteso mad at myself... great hack.
whoa, er, i hope you know pressure treated wood contains arsenic and is not intended to be in contact with skin for any length of time!
ReplyDeleteother than that, awesome project. but seriously, i would suggest putting some Tremclad paint or something on the wood before you fall ill.
Actually, most PT wood today is treated with what is called Alkaline Copper Quaternary or Copper Azole-much safer alternatives to the old arsenic treatments. Home Depot does not carry CCA(arsenic treated) lumber anymore.
ReplyDeleteYou can still apply a penetrating oil-based treatment on top of the stain anyway for extra safety and longer wear.
Still gotta use the expensive hot deipped galvanized fasteners though or the copper will eat through the steel.
First time I've been moved to comment ... very nice hack, very creative.
ReplyDeletebest damn hack i've seen in a while!!!

Love this hack. It's definitely my favorite. I think my old roommate may still have this chair. I might have to buy it off him and try this hack myself!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!!! But next time don't sit down with a knife in your back pocket. :-)
ReplyDeleteSo much better than the original! I hate these with fabric but it's great with the wood slats!
ReplyDeleteawesome! awesome! awesome!
ReplyDeleteI just tossed out one that broke! I might have to go get two new ones, because this hack is incredible. Really well done.
ReplyDeleteThis is great! My sons I could never get the cover to come all the way down on and now I am going to do this with it!
ReplyDeleteThose are fantastic!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! These belong in a DWR catalog for $1200. Simply amazing. Like others have said, I was moved to comment...never have until now. Well done, Alex.
ReplyDeleteNow you've gone and made me mad at myself for throwing out two of these chairs when they ripped through! Why didn't I think of this!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat hack!
Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteHi Alex,
ReplyDeleteI was just about to toss this chair away when I stumbled upon this brilliant hack.
I was curious, what size of wood did you purchase? Also, what did you find to be the optimal length for the wood pieces? I don't have my own saw so I'll have to ask the lumber yard to chop the slats down to size for me. Once again, genius! Thank you for sharing. :)
Jen
Very nice!
ReplyDeleteHow do make sure the slats don't slide or move when you sit on them?
This is BRILLIANT! Gorgeous and clever!
