Airstream Ikea hacking

I’m loving what Deb did to cover the airstream windows.

She says, “My Ikea hack is for an 1970 Airstream trailer that I found on craigslist and revamped into my girly-space. I took ‘Gyllen Wall Panels’ (not found on website) which are supposed to be used as closet doors and wall dividers, and I chopped them right down making them into blinds for the airstream windows. Airstream windows are tough to find proper window coverings for … as the walls are curved (without paying a fortune for custom blinds). So these worked great, are pretty, super easy to redecorate when I’m in the mood to change colours and cheap too!”

See how pretty my windows are now!

OH MY GOSH! This is EXACTLY what I have been wanting to do with a vintage trailer…customizing and adding a futon-type couch, removing the built-ins…until now its all just been in my head and I had never seen it done before! Amazing :-)

I am in awe! I have been thinking about buying an airstream to just hang out in the backyard. Love what you are doing! Do you blog about it?

For years I have wanted to buy an old airstream and fix it up like you have done!! It looks amazing…

Hi, it’s Deb again – To answer IvoryPale’s question about my ‘after’ sofa, it’s from Sears and is called a Davenport Cloud (I believe). It’s a klik-klak (sp?) which means it means it clicks from sofa to chaise lounge to bed.

Hi it’s Deb … the owner of the Airstream! Thanks so much for all the wonderful compliments! If any of you would like to see more before and after photos, they are on Facebook (my name is Deb Leblanc on Salt Spring Island…if you wish to find me). Or if you like you can email me and I’ll send you some photos. The Airstream reno was also featured in the article:

    May email is: [email protected]

    Thanks again!!

I’ve been looking at Airstreams on Craigslist for awhile now. What an inspiring hack, Deb…I’d love to create a chill zone like yours!

  7. Wow! What a great job. Maybe I’ll have to hang on to my parents old airstream (circa 1975) and start a redecorating project myself.

    Julie :-)

I love your “after” sofa. Do you remember what kind it is or where you got it?

  9. majeral says:

I would love to see your whole “space’ WHAT DO YOU USE IT FOR? That is a good idea I think I could use it in my bedroom windows to let light in but block the view inside.

  10. little kit says:

Wow! That looks so much nicer :)

  11. Mari says:

That looks amazing! I agree with majeral, I’d like to see the whole airstream!
