Gorm and the wash basin

Thye Foo from Malaysia (yay!) completes his first Ikea hack. And it's the first time I've seen the Gorm used with a sink unit. That said, the Gorm is untreated wood, so it would be advisable to coat it with varnish to avoid water damage.

"This is my first 'Ikea hack'," he says, "I replaced my dirty old wash basin with the help of Ikea's Gorm shelving unit. It's used as support and doubles up as a shelving unit."

  1. Good idea, but where'd the window go?

  2. I love how it looks like the sink is just another planter, standing on the shelf loose!

(I think there's a blind over the window...)

  10. Wow. What a simple and easy fix! I can really see potential for staining the wood. I think it could look really modern and fresh with some color. Great job!

  11. Even though I might have left the tall upright to the right of the sink, to make it easier to mount a mirror over the sink, a telescoping mirror could still be attached to the upright on the left. Cool hack!

  13. Great idea, Thye Foo.

Love the fresh look. Good idea to use blind to let in the light but block sight of the other building.

I'm about to lose view of the hills due to new building.

  14. What a great hack! It really furnishes the room, and leaves plenty of room for towels and other necessities. (With a bunch of kids, this would be a great setup.)

    Thanks so much!

  15. Very cool use of the gorm! Never thought I would see someone hack it in to a vanity for a sink!
