She says, "My husband and I bought a Malm bedroom set, and needed something that would work as a TV stand since the bed is so low. We had really limited space (due to the layout of the room) and everything at Ikea is around 42" long. We ended up buying an Effektiv wall cabinet, added the doors with frosted glass, and some capita legs, which brought it up to the perfect height, and perfectly sized for our 32" flat screen!"

how is this a hack? just adding the legs?

Terrific! We've been looking for a TV stand and this will be less expensive than the 'real' TV stands.
ReplyDeleteCould she not have maybe cleaned up a little before taking this picture?
ReplyDeleteLooks good. To 'allie', it's a repurposed kitchen cabinet, which is creative and fits the definition of hack as far as it fits the context of "ikea hacks".
ReplyDeleteThe horizontal kitchen cabinets with frosted glass would be good for a low tv stand or you could have a few wall mounted in a row.
Agreed, please clean up before posting. Nobody wants to see your mess, and it is really distracting.
ReplyDeleteIt's just some cat toys. Chill.
ReplyDeleteWhat is with the comments on this website lately?
Icould see they were cat toys! As for clearing up, presume they meant the line where a previous cabinet sat. Well, I have a similar line on my carpet and several years later and despite all efforts to the contrary, I still have a visible line.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea by the way. We did the opposite some years ago and long before Ikea came to our shores - turning an old 1950s wooden framed TV cabinet into a set of shelves.
I made this- sorry about the mess! I was just so excited to show everyone our new room, and I ended up using the photo to send in.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable. Fucking douchebags crying about some cat toys and me and my wifes PlayStation games. We have six cats, and they love their toys! Give me a break, get a fucking life.
ReplyDeleteMy wife shouldn't have to apologize to any of you twats.
I personally LOVE simple hacks like this.. thinking outside of the box! IKEA has SO MUCH product across their many departments, it's cool to see how others have utilized design from one department for use in a totally different way. Keeps the brain active to look for what I need in a different department all the time.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very attractive TV stand you've hacked, thanks for sharing!

Sarah, your TV stand is perfect. I was just at Ikea this past weekend helping a friend find a TV stand roughly this size. It's a shame we didn't see your idea first! Ahh welll.
