Ikea makes pizza delivery a breeze on your bike

Always wanted to cart home piping hot pizza on your bike? John who has a "Freeloader" hauling attachments on his bike (a recumbent) is hot to go up to Ikea and get the parts needed to make his a PizzaLoader, a brilliant idea from Xtracycle. A Gorm shelf and Lansa door handle make this pizza loader for bikes possible.

Visit Xtracycle for your PizzaLoader instructions.

Updated! February 23, 2009
John sent me pictures of his PizzaLoader.

He says, "Here's the completed PizzaLoader (with kind of a yucky-color stain, but it's what I had handy).

I had to go to the hardware store to get some longer bolts to fasten the Xtracycle snaphooks to the bottom of the Gorm shelf.  The Lansa handle worked perfectly to provide a "backrest" bar, which will also be a good connection for the little tiedown straps that Ikea has for packing your stuff on your cartop."

  3. If "John" has a recumbant with an Xtracycle on it, we want to see pictures!

  4. Hi, that's our pizza loader that my husband, Jeremy, and I assembled from Ikea parts to use with our Xtracycle. The Xtracycle isn't typically put on a recumbent bike - it's a longtail bike kit in which the rear wheel is extended rearward to allow for extra room for hauling things (groceries, supplies, pizza, passengers, nearly anything!), while keeping the bike extremely stable for hauling such loads. Check it out here: www.xtracycle.com
(PS the bike in the photo is Xtracycle's new complete longtail bike, the Radish.)

  5. I was about to say that the next time I hit Ikea, I was going to pick up a Gorm shelf for this. But then I realized, I'm pretty sure I have an extra sitting in my garage. I'll have to go check when I get home...

  6. I do indeed have a recumbent with an xtracycle "Freeloader" installed, and I have sent xtracycle the pix before.

You can see a snap of it here (in the Ecovelo gallery of cool bikes):

I have hauled a bunch of things with it, and yesterday I made it to IKEA to buy the parts for the Pizzaloader -- and ordered the little snapdeck gizmos from Xtracycle

(Which are wildly overpriced though! :^(

When they arrive and I've got the thing together, I'll send a snap to Ikea Hacker -- the longtail recumbent pizzaloader! Pretty funny since lots of recumbent riders -- including me -- tend to be among the more, shall we say, anatomically gifted in the abdomen area! (Old guys with big bellies!)
