Nick's butcher block work top

Nick, an automotive technician in Wilton CT USA, was looking for a work surface top for his toolbox. Shopping around, he found a stainless steel one for almost $800, a butcher block one for about $500. For $129 he bought a Numerar countertop at Ikea and only had to cut it for depth. And now he has a butcher block work surface.

  1. This looks fantastic! We have really wanted a work bench in our garage but have limited space - this is a great alternative that we will definitely look into. The castors keep it even more versatile! Thanks.

  3. I hope he sealed it well: the oil on the Numerar is not sufficient to turn away penetrating stains. I put one of these around a cooktop, but before I installed it, I sanded off the existing oil finish (a must do), stained it with penetrating stain, and applied three coats of GymSeal (an industrial-grade wood floor coating, thus the name). Works perfectly.
