She ways, "My husband and I needed an entry way table (a landing strip by Apartment Therapy terms) and didn't have much more than 10, maybe 11, inches of depth to work with which made things tough and hard to find a good white console table. We're in the process of re-doing our entry way and going to wallpaper but came up with a really clever way to construct our own entry way table using a Lack shelf ($14.99) and two of the taller Vika Fintorp legs ($10 each).
Probably not a lot of instructions needed on this one, we attached the legs first, then installed the shelf with legs using the Lack mounting bar. One clever trick we found was to figure out the correct placement with the legs and slowly lean the table back, load a sharpie in each of the holes on the back of the Lack shelf and it marked the correct spot to hang the mounting bar."
That looks really nice. I've been meaning to do the exact same thing in my entry way, except I'm planning to use the Vika Inge legs instead.

I love the idea of this, but aren't the legs way too short to be an entry way table? They are 70cm and I think and entry way table should be about 90cm (sorry to those who use the English system...you can convert the measurements online).

ReplyDeleteI use an Ikea PS cabinet as my hall table, and it's even lower than 70cm, and it works perfectly fine!! It's not like dropping my mail and keys is really such a hard task that I need a high table for it... plus I can sit on it to put on my shoes!!

Have often thought of this hack -- have you seen the umbra shelving that is almost identical to this? the desginer got the idea of cutting a table in 1/2 to make a bookshelf that rests against the wall. brilliance.
ReplyDeleteGreat and inspiring adapted this idea to a more low-budget version with the VIKA curry White legs (turn upside down then)... Also works very well, since everything is in white then. and I could even place the Loggia (?!) shoestand below it. I like it a lot! Thanks for this cool hack.
