He says, "I hacked my Ikea TV stand/entertainment center twice - when we first bought it (2005) I mis-measured the height between the TV shelf and the next shelf located above the TV area. I had to drill new holes for the bolts and raised the upper shelf to fit my 50" TV. Two years passed before I thought to hack it again. Then about 2 weeks ago I decided that I needed a less cluttered look for my entertainment center - so I cut the tall posts that held the upper two shelves down to a ideal height for tv viewing and reused the cut portions of the posts into shelf support/dividers. Ultimately I left one of the upper shelves off with the payoff being a lot less clutter on or around the TV area. Behind the TV for ambient lighting I have one set of Dioder lighting strips attached for a nice glow during TV viewing.
But here's my issue - my wife and I bought this TV stand in the spring of 2005 at Ikea Seattle - and I have no idea what it is called. We only saw it the one time we went shopping for a stand and never saw it in the catalog. Anyone have an clue?"

It is the same one my husband and I have and we "hacked it" by not addition the bottom front covers to the shelves, making them drawers and just left it open. although I love your dividers, this makes it even less cluttered.

There was a LACK entertainment center much like this at the Minneapolis IKEA in early '06, but when my wife and I went back for it in September, it was gone.

It had a total of 4 shelves; two near the bottom and two at the top with the space in the middle for the TV.

It took several minutes to recognize your tv bench.
It was called LACK, and was part of the LACK/EXPEDIT family.
It's an outgoing article, its substitute is the EXPEDIT TV/Bookcase system, bigger than your furniture.
What is wrong with your TV? Is that a flat panel set on top of the frame of a larger TV?

Yeah it was the Lack, the only had it for a year I suppose. It was a little unstable in its original form but it was versatile. I ended up having to make the shelf above the TV a few inches higher to fit the 56" TV. This hack seems to be much nicer though :).

Oh and there's nothing wrong with that TV. That was just the style of Sony's for a bit :). They made the panel seem like it was floating with the speakers off to the side.
