The Mandal headboard as wall decor
Diane needed some thing to spice up her dining room wall and the Mandal headboard did the trick.
She says, "I was looking for something to spice up the dining area - we have an open concept condo - dining, living and kitchen are all one room. One night I was looking at the Ikea catalogue and had an idea. I wanted to use the Mandal Headboard above the dining table - I stacked 2 together and I call it my 'architectural installation'. Much fancier than telling people I put an Ikea headboard in my dining area!"

I LOVE this. I loved the Mandal headboard when I first saw it, but thought it was too expensive WITH the bed to complete the whole look (I'm also in an apt and am wary about hanging heavy things from the walls). But this has given me living room inspiration! I think even one, above the couch let's say, would be great!

It's too bad the Mandal headboard is so expensive for what it is.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to do something similar to this but lay it the length of my floor, as a sort of raised terrace / sectioner. When I saw the price for how much it would cost it quickly became an unrealistic dream. I will probably have to make it myself, out of raw materials.
OMG!! I love this idea and even better, my husband said I could do something similar which is pretty damn awesome if you knew my husband:)

The Mandal does come separately from the bed but...be prepared. The one I bought had to go back because the wood strips were all warped. The clerks in returns didn't even bat an eye. They said many were like that. Too bad--this look depends upon solid linearity.
ReplyDeleteIt's a terrific look for a song. Getting anything for $150 these days is miraculous.

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but if anyone thinks think looks 'cool' they need their head checked. Perhaps the slats on their own as wall feature in a MUCH larger room, but as shelving? noo...dangerous and tacky.

ReplyDeleteI was looking at this for a similar reason. I have a wallmount TV that looks naked on its own. I was thinking of mounting this behind it...especially if the shelves could support is weight (not heavy).
