Am absolutely loving this. Tres chic. Rebecca says, "We had wanted chic yet simple mirrored bedside tables and really didn't want to spend all the $ for them. We already had 1 Fornbro table
(can't find the link on Ikea's site) so I bought 1 more and took the tops to a local glass store. For $15/mirror, they custom-cut a new top. A little glue and - voila - modern yet simple mirrored bedside tables. And all for about $60.

Dave tells me, "I needed a bedside table/nightstand and didn't see any that I liked. Instead, I took a Mikeal drawer unit, intended for a workspace, and built it without the wheels on the bottom or the large file-drawer (so only with the two drawers on the top). The result is a great looking and functional bedside table at the perfect height."
Great idea! I had the exact same idea. I was looking at my same Mikael file cabinet and thought they would make perfect nightstands, because they look good and they're taller than others. Thanks for validating this idea!

I have the Mikael file cabinet too. I actually assembled it twice because I screwed up the bottom drawer the first time (you're to leave the bottom off if you want to use it for files).
ReplyDeleteI've just inherited a big curvy desk top, and in my new place I was thinking about using these cabinets for the "legs" of my new desk ... but the casters seemed a dealbreaker. How simple to just leave them off! And I love the open look of no bottom drawer. Yay for the idea.

ReplyDeleteI use this same piece as a bedside table. I kept the casters and the bottom drawer because I needed the storage and... well I just didn't think to leave the casters off. An added bonus is that I also have the Mikael desk in my room, so there is now some reference between my workspace and sleeping space, which there wasn't much of before.
