eviedee says, "have you seen the bjorken medicine cabinet? i am currently using mine to hold booze in the living room. the bjorken is attractive, sturdy and makes a lovely visual joke."

but it's the matching glassware that completes the joke. using tape, stick a cross on the svalka glass. spray paint the entire glass with frosted glass spray
see more of eviedee's emergency booze cabinet.

A better option might be to use glass etching solution. I believe the end result would be safe to use then.
ReplyDeleteYou could use acid etching paste on the glasses instead of the paint. I think it is safe to use as a drinking glass then.
ReplyDeleteThey make stuff you can brush on glass to give the etched appearance that is safe to drink with.
ReplyDeleteGotta love booze cabinets! Plus, you can make the glasses usable by using etching cream instead of the frosted spray. The look is exactly the same, just more permanent.
ReplyDeleteLove it!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you want the frosted glasses to be food-safe, use glass etching cream instead of the paint. Check out these instructions on how to frost your glasses
ReplyDeleteFor usable glasses, use glass etching cream! Available online or at select art supply stores. My example here:

ReplyDeleteIf you do the same thing but use etching cream, it will be food safe! Just becareful to wear gloves. :)
ReplyDeleteInstead of using the frost spray, you can etch glass simply using a basic chemical compound. You can find more info here.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this!
ReplyDeleteUsing glass etching cream would provide the same effect without the unpleasant toxic effect.
Or you could make a small cross template and just use your frost spray to make the reverse patter (frosted cross on a clear background) and use them to drink from.
ReplyDeleteHa! Hey, I think a few people might recommend glass etching cream... :)
ReplyDeleteWe bought glass etching cream and etched some cheap IKEA jars and glasses for Christmas gifts a couple years ago. If you use letter stickers you can spell things out, and of course stickers come in other fun shapes as well. Use tape to mask off borders. And be very careful -- gloves, protective paper, lock up the pets, etc. The caustic chemical made me nervous but it was worth it.

Perfect! I'm moving in with some conservative Christian girls and they insist I restrict the booze to my bedroom. I can't think of a better way to store them.
ReplyDeleteNext time, put a ring of tape around the top edge before frosting the glass so that you have a safe drinking rim.
