jazz up your bed frame with digital print
james was in italy and noticed custom modern beds that were screen printed on, going in upwards of $6,000. so he decided to try it himself and went to a local graphic shop and dug into their scrap pile. here is what he came up with for his malm bed frame.
james says, "it is just a simple digital print on adhesive backed vinyl, applied on the front of all the vertical surfaces. the hack cost me nothing more then a 1/4 tank of gas, and looks great and everyone asks where i 'bought it'.
the print came from www.stampededigital.com's 'scrap' pile (so it was free, all i did was apply it then cut to size), but i am sure they will sell any custom made 'wrap' for the bed given the measurements. i thought about doing a van gogh or monet themed print originally, until i saw that particular discarded print on the table and ended up using it instead."

ReplyDeletetry your local vinyl store and ask for scraps and misprints -- any kind of sign shop would have this. (Think of those quick signs/banner places that are all over)
ReplyDeleteAlso, the cost for custom cut and printed vinyl really isn't too outrageous, because vinyl is cheap. It's the application that takes man-hours, because it's a skill to place. But if you're doing it yourself, they can charge you much less. Depending on exactly what you're looking for, it might cost a few dollars.
I have a vinyl guy that I work with a lot, and I do a lot of laser cut patterns, and one of the cost-savings options that he gives me is to pick out the negatives myself (think of the hole in a donut) because that saves him time and also since I apply it myself, he just charges me for the actual vinyl cost, which can literally be as low as $1.
much better & more graphic than a Van Gogh print!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the last one. Van Gogh or Monet would have been a bit cliche, the final product here looks graphic and contemporary. Amazing job.

ReplyDeleteAnother cheap alternative is blockposters.com or even better for this look (where you can adjust the size of the distortion aka halftone) is www.homokaasu.org/rasterbator (I know, I hate that name too. It's blocked by a lot of filters).
