she says, "the kitchen is on one side of the front door, and there was space just inside the kitchen doorway for this tidy trash and recycling center. the hacking part was more like sawing, as one of my ikea cutting boards was re-sized to become the shelf (aligned with the adjacent wire shelving) that supports the smaller wastebasket. now junk mail can immediately be recycled upon entry; and having the debris 'trashcan' available without opening a cupboard i find very handy.

ReplyDeleteThis is a really good idea for a home office area. I always keep a box for recyclables and a trash can for non-recyclables, and they take up so much floor space. I could save some room with this kind of setup. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThe lamp is there as a light to turn on when entering the kitchen, and as a soft light for early mornings, not to provide special lighting for trash and recylcing. (For some reason, when the house was built, the light switch for the kitchen is on the far wall from the entrance, and turns on a huge four-tube flourescent ceiling light.

IKEA tweaks the law in Romania and they don't recycle anything from consumers (although they claim otherwise). The collection receptacles for batteries and bulbs are a joke (just a bit bigger than a 2-liter PEPSI/Coke bottle). Some NGOs have tried to convince them, but the profits are visibly the only thing IKEA Romania cares about...
