a paint job can turn trash into art
diane turned this bench (the name, anyone?), salvaged from the trash, into a little piece of art.
she first transferred the design, taken from an Art Nouveau book that she had and drew it on the bench with white colored pencil. then, she coloured it in with acrylics.

see more of diane's art nouveau bench.

it looks like it's from the SVANSBO family like my old coffee table. i loved that coffee table but it was too big for my new apartment :-(
ReplyDeleteNice paint job!
ReplyDeleteIt's the taller part of a two section, sort-of-stackable coffee table set... can't recall the name of it. I don't think they make it anymore. Bottom level was wider and lower, and slid underneath this part. Beautiful paint job! I have the same set in my garage somewhere... maybe I will haul it out and be inspired.
ReplyDeleteWOW! how pretty, great job.
ReplyDeleteThank you for featuring me in this fantastic blog! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's sad, a simple varnish could have restored this great bench. Instead it was painted and is not the modern piece it once was. I never liked adornment. It never makes the pieces more beautiful, it makes them look cheaply crafted.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice as it was.
cybelle is correct. sad to see this happen to such a nice table.
ReplyDeleteWell, I think the paint job is pretty. Cybelle and anonymous cybelle backer, you should chill out. It's not like it was a precious antique. It was an old IKEA coffee table that someone threw away! And I don't think the paint job makes it look cheap, I think it looks customized, fun and original.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with cybelle & Anon, I think it makes the piece looks much better and may just be a matter of personal taste that would make it impossible to appreciate the work done.
ReplyDeleteI do however understand the comment of painting making pieces look cheaply crafted I hate that too, just don't think it to be the case with this piece.
File I am not a fan of painted adornment (it's only paint cybelle-it can be removed); I say congratulattions to you on a great piece of furniture that you took out of the trash and did up for your own! Very green very fresh!
