here's an idea! a bonde bookcase dollhouse

carrie over at apartment therapy's ohdeedoh tipped me on a fabulous flickr find. it ain't a hack but i couldn't say no it.

sarah turned a bonde bookcase into a dollhouse, with working lights! it brought out all that girl-envy in me. as carrie noted, the best thing is when your child outgrows the dollhouse, you've got a bookcase ready for service.

  1. What a great idea! For younger kids, you could turn it on its side so it's not too tall for them to reach the top sections.

  2. I used to do this with my Billy bookcase as a kid. My dolls had moved into an apartment following the annihilation of their real doll house by Hurricane Sister. Kind of like a FEMA trailer, but before Katrina and without the formaldehyde.

  5. Yay! That's my dollhouse.

    Andrea: I'm working on that part actually, the house isn't anywhere near finished. I'm just SO picky about the wallpaper I can't find any I like.

  6. i had a doll house just like this as a kid, but made out of square cardboard boxes covered in white contact paper.!

  8. I wonder if you could scan in a sample of regular sized wallpaper, reduce it on a computer and then print it out on an inkjet or color laser printer.

  9. This is exactly what I was looking for! I am writing a build your own dollhouse guide for those not interested in woodworking, using ready made cube or bookshelves. I used my bookshelf as a dollhouse when I was a kid. This one is perfect. Looks nice and stylish too! (Sarah loved your pics on flickr too) I am going to link back to this cool dollhouse from my guide! I think I need a road trip to Ikea too! Wooden Dollhouses
