carole says, "i bought alleby (can't find the link on ikea site) plain pine stools and personalized them with comics.

i stuck the comics on with PVA glue before assembling the five parts. then i coated the whole stool in PVA before varnishing it with two coats of high gloss and lastly, stuck on little feltfeet. at the end there is no trace of the original pine. the fun part is choosing which bit of the comic to use!
i have also covered stools in Financial Times, Viz, Ordnance survey maps and even painted designs on them. sold them for a time in a funky shop in stroud but, sadly, the populace was not ready for such a place and it folded!"

What a freaken great idea! FarOut!Imagine it with R.Crumb comics! Yikes!
ReplyDeleteAsterix und Obelix, awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteSo cool!
ReplyDeleteJust saw this idea on Ikea Hacker and had to see more. I started doing this project years ago using a stool, with cut out phrases and words. Then life took a turn, I put my stuff in storage and moved cross country. One day I'll get to finish it. Or maybe life will be too different, with inspiration lost.
ReplyDeleteHi there - I am TOTALLY inspired by what you have done here and I am DEFINATELY going to have a go, i LOVE it!!!!
ReplyDeleteCan I ask what type of PVA glue you used and did you water it down at all?
What was the glossy varnish you used also?
Many Thanks and well done! XJ
