make it smell good again

a minor fire makes a stinky sofa. give lisa a sweet smelling new slipcover.

"I think our sofa deserves a second chance not only because it's starting to look really saggy but the fact that it stinks!

We had a minor fire two weeks ago in a flower pot in the living room and the smoke just won't come out not matter that we've washed the covers. The couch itself we still love so why buy a new one? Don’t you agree?" - Lisa

  1. I think the more interesting story here is what was going on in that flowerpot!

  2. You should spray it with a product such as febreeze. The smell is probably deeper than just the slipcover, so I don't know that winning would solve your odor issue.

  3. Wash with vinegar or even just leave bowls of vinegar out around it. It absorbs the odor. Worked great for us after a minor fire.

  4. Take the cushions off the sofa. Sprinkle the sofa with some sort of carpet freshener, preferably the pet kind with baking soda in it. If the sofa is the sort with the thin rice-paperish cover on the bottom of it, slice right through that, sprinkle the carpet freshener all over the seat (not the cushions, you've taken them off, remember?), and then vacuum from the UNDERSIDE of the sofa, pulling the powder through the material as best you can.

Then...get a giant Space Bag, big enough to fit your biggest cushion. One by one, sprinkle carpet freshener in the bottom of the bag, then put the cushion into the Space Bag, vacuum the air out of it through the vent thingus, let it sit for a minute or two, then open up the bag, flip the cushion over, and do it again.

If that doesn't work, get a new couch. :-)
