"as i am really tall, i always wanted a kitchen with a high countertop. these are insanely expensive, so we used a standard ikea faktum (similar to akurum) kitchen with white arlig doors an placed these little wooden drawers (we don't remember the name, but they are quite similar to the mackis drawers), that were painted to match, on top of them.
then we topped the whole thing off with a dark brown countertop that is fastened to the wall. the bigger brown square in the middle is one of the boxes turned sideways to match the overall length of the kitchen. the result is a countertop height of 108cm instead of the standard 89."
This is an ingenious solution to the tall person's problem. I'm short, so it doesn't apply to me, but I think it's better-looking than most custom "tall" counters. I also like the way the countertop extends beyond the base units to expand the workspace.
ReplyDeletei'm short and when buying my condo i was thinking of creating a platform as the kitchen floor so i could finally use the counter space at a comfortable level.
ReplyDeleteVery good idea. Most kitchens could benefit from a similar setup. They could do this on a section of countertop that doesn't get used very often, or is away from the main work area, to give a little extra storage space.
