I just spoke with a glass & mirror company that can do the cutting for a very reasonable price. I was quoted $377 for cut mirror pieces to cover a 30"W x 80"L x 30"H table. This coffee table is great! What an inspiration. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are like the coolest ikea hacker ever!! I have a mirrored table that arrived broken on top and sides and I want to go out and buy custom mirrors like you did. I was also thinking about buying a sqaure desk with tons of drawers on each side, mirroring it and turning it into a vintagy art deco glam vanity! That might be too ambitious but your coffee table looks like you bought it in William Sonoma for $2000. Good job!!

I tossed the idea around about making my own coffee table too....... now I can see that I can really make it and that it will look awesome! I hope Ikea 'buys' your idea from you (and quick so I can just buy it already done!).
ReplyDeleteQuick Question: would the mirrored coffee table (sides and legs) post a problem by showing your underware if not sitting with legs crossed? I was telling the parentals that I wanted to make the legs mirrored too and the above was their comment...... So, is it a problem?

ReplyDeleteSo on to my question, do you think without any reenforcement the support shelf is necessary? Meaning could I build a LACK table (35wide version) and just not install the shelf and fill in with wood putty and paint? Or do you think the table would be too unstable?
i do think it will wobble. if you want to do without the shelf, some reinforcements (L brackets) to the top and legs would be a good idea.

If you don't want to or can't go to a glazier, you can get mirror finish plexiglass sheets and cut them yourself with a utility blade. You'll get a similar look.

This is absolutely gorgeous! I was thinking about doing this to make mirrored cube accent tables. I'm not sure where to get the mirrors but now I'm rethinking all the expensive ones I've seen.
