slim pantry for small kitchen

christine needed a pantry unit to fit between her fridge and door of her kitchen. she also wanted it to align it with the fridge. here's what she did with 2 akurum base units from the ikea kitchen range.

"i could take a high cabinet if it was a little shorter than the standard ones and it would snugly fit against the fridge. instead, i bought 2 akurum base units - one with drawer and one with only shelves.

used the one with drawer at the bottom and flipped the shelf unit on top, fastened with 4 screws. since the usual top has no cover i used one of the shelves in between the units. bonus is that it costs about $100 less than the high cabinet and gives a lot more flexibility on size and configuration."

  1. I'm a fellow Ikea lover. I like how you combine their pieces. As much as I love ikea I have a habit of painting them since I love to repaint furniture funky. Problem is I end up selling them and have few pieces for myself!

  2. Hi Christine,

I am new to this site and am so grateful to find it! I am even more excited about finding your post...as I have been taking many trips to IKEA, in my plan to place various kitchen "base" cabinets under my stair area. In one of the spaces, I plan to use 2 base units on top of each other, as you have. My question is how did you mount the un-used shelf to the top of the bottom unit, in order to screw the top unit with the bottom unit...I haven't figured this out, yet and will be doing this project myself. Thanks in advance!
