adding a spacer to the lack tv bench

what do you do if your ikea tv bench are a tad too low? frank serritelli hacked 2 lack tv benches so that the tv sits higher and their tv addict pug can't reach the screen, presumably to chase cars.

"our solution was to combine 2 of these. we assembled the first one per the instructions. the second one we built without the legs. i then took 1x2 oak boards cut to go under 3 sides for the spacer. i stained the oak mocha brown and spray polyurethaned it. i then attached this spacer with glue and screws to the underside of the top unit and placed the whole assembly on top of the first."

looking good, frank.

  4. Very handsome -- nice choice to use the contrasting color for the spacer board.

  6. THE PROBLEM WITH THE LACK UNIT IS THAT IT DOES NOT ACCOMODATE MOST A/V RECIEVERS. THE HEIGHT BETWEEN THE SHELVES IS ABOUT 1/2" TO SHORT. I CAN'T FIT MY CENTER CHANNEL UNDER IT EITHER. I THINK THIS LOOKS REALLY NICE, BUT I WONDER IF THERE IS A WAY TO MAKE IT MORE FUNCTIONAL, BY USING TO UNITS IN A SIMILAIR WAY TO WHAT YOU HAVE DONE.

  7. Can anyone tell me what the height between the shelves actually is? I'm trying to find something to sit a 170mm (6.7") HTPC case in.

  8. WOW! thats almost the same as what I did. I bought 2 of these Lack's (the dark version) and didnt use the spacer, nor the lowest shelve from the upper bench. I will upload a pic to www.aqid.nl/lack.jpg tonight. At Anonymous who wants to know the hight, it wont fit. My 5,5" HTPC just fits in, I believe the space is about 5,8-6,0".

  9. I took this idea but instead of your spacer i just laid out 8 round cork bits to use under hot pans. They sell them in pacs of 3 in Sweden. I now have the top lack bench "floating" over the other with a space of about 2.5 cm. Very nice, thanks for the idea.
