play kitchen for under $200

this has got to the cutest hack ever. zen bliss put together an absolute doll of a play kitchen using parts of the ikea ivar storage system. [via windsor peak press message boards]

"all in, the cost was $200 including all hardware, materials, and a special drill bit to sink the extra hinges on the fridge. the cabinet & tv cart are ivar from ikea, other wood parts are from michael's and pearl art center. i'll probably add shelves or hooks later but i couldn't commit, so for now, the backsplash is bare." link.

did you notice the "oven" with the pull-down glass door? it's made from a photo frame! is that cool or what? thanks, heather, for the tip!

  1. Be wary of the glass for the glass oven door. It should be a form of safety glass or plexiglass.

  2. I bought a much nicer electric set for $75 new. This stuff comes out of China for nothing and it's got electric lights and comes with pots, pans and fake food.

  3. nicely done! i love the "sink" :)

as a side note-the backsplash is made from the 2 short sides of a GRANKULLA footstool, if anyone is curious about those.

  4. Looks great. I echo concern about the glass oven door and would replace the glass with plastic of some sort.

  5. cheap ikea photo frames usually have plastic in them anyway don't they??
